The Endeavour

Our Year 2019/20:

Unfortunately Lockdown brought our year 2019/20 to an abrupt halt as is the case for everyone of course. But even though most of the children have not been able to attend school and go on lots of trips, they have been keeping their spirits up by being busy and creative. Take a look at our Galleries page to view photos of us in Lockdown

Mr Creedon was nominated for the award of "Teacher of the Year in a Special School" and was shortlisted to the final three at the Essex Teaching Awards 2020 and won!!! We are all in no doubt that it was well deserved. He is a firm favourite with students, staff and parents, showing patience, care, humour, generosity as well as horticulture and musical talent, the list goes on and on. He really is a one-off and has the kindest of hearts. We will all miss him when he retires in July.

Hadfield class won the prize for tallest lego tower and Mr Chadwick enjoyed judging the "nailed it" cake competition. Well done to all our winners and thank you to everyone who took part.

We had lots of fun and entertainment at Christmas. KS3 and 4 put on terrific shows for their parents, primary classes had breakfast at Toby Carvery, KS4 pupils were given the opportunity to decorate a Christmas tree by The Rotary Club which was used in the grotto in the Baytree Centre. Christmas dinner was delicious and we all got to wear our Christmas jumpers.

The school were delighted to be sent a class set of David Walliams' fantastic book "Gangsta Granny". These books came from David himself along with a personal note and a signed copy of another of his book "Fing". In our KS3 curriculum our students love studying David Walliams books with his interesting characters and amazing sense of humour. We would like to thank him very much for his kindness and generosity and look forward to using these in the near future.

Each year our KS4 pupils apply for the roll of Prefect. This year 15 pupils applied and attended interviews with Mrs Sparks. They all did incredibly well presenting themselves positively in a professional way. All were successful in their applications and are now busy fufilling their duties and were presented with Prefect badges.

We raised £152.50 at our McMillan Coffee Morning in September. Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way. Parents and carers benefitted from meeting with representatives from ourside agencies and learned about services and activities going on in the areas they live, as well as having the opportunity to chat informally to one another.

20 KS4 pupils attended the annual residential trip to Dukes Barn in Derbyshire in September. It was a busy week with activities such as abseiling, canoeing, weaselling, caving, climbing Thorpe Cloud (1000 ft high), exploring Dovedale village and visiting the tearoom at Tissington. The evenings activities included a quiz, bowling and movies. This trip is always a great experience for our pupils, seeing different and beautiful parts of the country and also facing challenges and achieving so many things as individuals and as part of a team. Everyone came home very proud of themselves and rightly so. Take a look at our Galleries page to view more photos.
