Meet our Governors

Chris O'Brien - Chair of Governors

I joined the governing body in September 2015 after a long career

working in adult education. Starting as a tutor I eventually worked across
Essex as a manager with a remit for Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding
and the Quality of Teaching and Learning. My granddaughter has special
educational needs which has helped me gain first hand knowledge of this
can bring to families and schools. In 2020 I was elected as chair of
governors, a post I still enjoy to this day. It has been exciting to watch the
development of the school over the last ten years and rewarding to be involved in an
establishment that is not simply satisfied in sitting on its laurels but continues to

strive for the best possible educational and personal opportunities for our children.

David Bill - Vice Chair / Parent Governor

Dave enjoyed 30 years in the public sector working for Essex Fire and Rescue Service, over 10 years at Director level, mostly as Operations Director.  Amongst other roles, he was strategic lead for risk management planning, Health & Safety, safeguarding and change management.  His duties included leadership of in excess of 1200 emergency workers, over 50 locations, throughout the year, 24 hours a day.  Dave has built significant knowledge in industrial relations, people and change management.  Whilst a Director, he authorised a number of strategic plans to build solid foundations for change and implemented a number of risk management tools to ensure effective structuring and resourcing of areas most in need.

Christine Baker - Governor

I became a member of the Governing body in 2014 after returning from four
years living abroad.
In 1973 I qualified as a teacher and I was one of the first teachers to obtain
an RSA Diploma in SpLD at Barts Hospital in London in1990. This
qualification enabled me to work in both Primary and Secondary schools,
teaching groups of pupils and individuals who were Dyslexic or had Special
Needs. My role later expanded to include writing assessm
ents to enable
pupils to have special concessions in examinations. I worked as part of a
team tutoring young adults at Chelmsford College in 2002 where I took a
Post Graduate Certificate in Adult Dyslexia Support at LLU+ South Bank
University.
I have seen huge developments in the school and Governing body since I
joined the board. It is always a pleasure to come into such a welcoming
school where the staff do their very best for the children.

David Jackson - Associate Governor

I have been working as a member of staff at ECA since 2024, most recently as the Site Manager. In an earlier part of my career I worked for 30 years as a legal practitioner specialising in construction and health and safety law. I have assisted the board as an Associate Governor since March 2024.  As an Associate Governor my role is to offer the board a view of everyday school life from a staff perspective, and also to assist the board where necessary on matters relevant to construction and Health & Safety which are issues in sharp focus for the school given the ongoing construction work on the site.
My home life as a parent of 2 children with autism has, I think, given me a valuable insight into the day to day life and struggles of our learners and their families as they navigate their way through school life.
I’m really proud to sit with the governors and play a part in guiding the school in its efforts toward building a successful future.

Jacqui Nyiro - Staff Governor

I joined the Governing body as a staff governor recently, but have worked at the school for over 11 years as a Learning Support Assistant. Previously I worked as a Children’s Nurse and a Residential Social Worker. I was also a parent governor at one of my children’s secondary schools. I find it a privilege to work with such inspiring young people on a daily basis and have thoroughly enjoyed watching the school grow to accommodate a sixth form. I work alongside an amazing team of people and have always referred to Endeavour as a school family ,where every child is known and known well by every staff member, making it an incredibly special place to work. I hope that by joining the governing body I can be part of the process to see the new school up and running, as it is so greatly deserved by the pupils and staff alike.

Veronica Denman - Co-opted Governor

I am a local resident and Co-opted Governor.  I have worked for over twenty years in secondary education as an English Teacher and for many years as a Head of English & Drama and also as a Head of Sixth Form.  I have most recently spent six years as Head of Oracy and I continue to examine GCSE and A level English.  This means that I have gathered a lot of information and experience helping young people establish and then pursue an appropriate and fulfilling path in life according to their individual interests and talents, something which I hope will be valuable in my work for Endeavour.  Oracy has become a passion for me; I am involved with the work of the English-Speaking Union, Jack Petchey and Toastmasters International amongst other organisations and I now work as a LAMDA examiner and an independent voice coach training people from age four to adult.  I am also undertaking post-graduate study and research in Spoken Voice Studies at Italia Conti in Woking.  Behind the scenes I am currently aiding careers education development at Endeavour and would love to hear your suggestions and thoughts on this.
