Exploring Careers

Lauriston Farm Work Experience:

A group of our KS4 learners recently visited Lauriston Farm for a fantastic work experience day.

The learners enjoyed a range of hands-on activities, including laying wood chips on a new pathway, cutting flowers to create bouquets for a farmers’ market and helping to feed the sheep. One of the highlights of the day was seeing a lamb that was only a few hours old!

Experiences such as these provide invaluable opportunities for our learners to develop practical skills, build confidence and gain an insight into working within a real-life rural environment.

A special thank you to Hattie for looking after our learners throughout the day and making them feel so welcome. Everyone had a fantastic time and came away with lots of positive memories and new experiences. We are incredibly grateful to Lauriston Farm for providing such a rewarding opportunity.

Nationwide Visit:

A group of KS4 learners recently enjoyed a visit to Nationwide Building Society in Brentwood.

During the visit, learners discovered how bank accounts work, learned how to use an ATM machine and even had the opportunity to take turns behind the counter serving one another. The hands-on activities helped bring everyday money management to life and provided a valuable insight into banking and financial services.

The learners thoroughly enjoyed the experience, particularly the opportunity to handle money and practise real-life skills in a safe and supportive environment. Visits like these play an important role in developing independence and preparing our learners for adulthood.

A huge thank you to the team at Nationwide for making the visit so engaging and interactive. In Justin’s words, the experience was simply “moneytastic!” 💷😊

BURLES WORK EXPERIENCE AS A POLICE OFFICER:
Thank you to Lewis and his team from The Metropolitan Police who visited Burles this
week. They had an amazing time during Work Experience trying on different uniforms
and searching for missing items like a crime scene. They even got to sit in a police car!

WORK EXPERIENCE AT
BRENTWOOD TOWN FC:
Learners from the sixth form have been participating in work experience at
Brentwood Town Football Club. They
have been working with Keith and Alan
from the club to maintain the grounds
ready for match days. They even have
had the opportunity to play football on
the pitch.

Some of our Sixth Form learners were given a unique behind-the-scenes experience at Costco to explore the world of work in a real life setting. From discovering the wide range of job roles available to understanding what it’s like to be part of the Costco team, the visit offered invaluable insights and sparked meaningful conversations about future pathways.

The sixth form has had two guests come into school to talk about their amazing careers. Lionel from Ahern Recycling and Waste Management spoke about the different job roles and tasks within the waste management industry. He explained the different procedures our waste goes through to be recycled. We were also visited by Charlotte who is a hairdresser, she spoke about how she completed her training with Toni and Guy. She gave a demonstration on how to cut and blowdry, using Miss Bell as her model. Some of the sixth form learners got the opportunity to become hairdressers too.

Today, our learners had the fantastic opportunity to visit Andy and Drew Mead at The Finishing Line to learn more about work experience and supported internships.

This experience was incredibly valuable for our SEND learners, providing them with insights into the different pathways to employment available to them. It’s opportunities like these that help build confidence and open doors to future possibilities.

A huge thank you to The Finishing Line for your time, support, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of our young people.

On the 2nd October Evie Collier from Team GB visited our Sixth Form to deliver an assembly on her career and her recent experience at the Paris Olympics. Sixth form learners were also given the opportunity to participate in a Table tennis workshop to help develop their skills within the game

Quote from Evie below:

"It was a wonderful experience to meet the students at the Endeavour Academy and share my journey in sport, from my own experiences as a table tennis player to my role with Team GB at the 2024 Summer Olympics.I was delighted to see and support the students actively participating in table tennis during the day. It was an excellent opportunity to discuss the positive impact that sport has on learning and the remarkable opportunities it can create. I cannot wait to visit again and see the students in action."
